NEW RIVER, WEST VIRGINIA--Two years in a row, my boss (seated in the next to last row) took me and my wife on a special media excursion whitewater rafting on the New River in West Virginia. The first year, we rode in the back of the raft. This year, we were in the front. We even got brave the second year and went through a small rapid stretch without the raft! Best time of year to raft in West Virginia is the summer, of course. There are a ton of state parks to stay at. We were guests of Hawk's Nest State Park Inns, with a beautiful of the New River gorge near the highest bridge in the world.
